Monday Notes: May 6, 2013

coleus2Time: 8:30 a.m.

Place: In bed … still in my PJ’s. Nice.

Eating: Nothing yet, though I haven’t really checked out the kitchen since Joel went to the grocery store by himself yesterday. I’m thinking…a bowl of raisin bran for breakfast. Mmmm.

Drinking: Probably lots of water today, though there’s the potential for a smoothie. Last week, I picked up a Dr. Pepper on my way to work because I was so sleepy and while it woke me up, it left me feeling kinda icky. Can’t get into that habit.

Watching: Didn’t watch too much TV this past week or weekend, though Rebecca inspired me to re-watch Jane Eyre featuring the lovely-to-look-at Michael Fassbender. It’s been awhile since I watched that movie, and even longer since I read the book, so I’m thinking of making that part of my Favorites Project.

Reading: I finished both Rebecca and Notes from Underground this week, and I only finished both because I was reading both at the same time – something I rarely do. However, Notes from Underground was such a slow read that I confined myself to 25 pages at a time, meaning I needed something to read during the down time and on my lunch break. After all that, I read the first few essays in When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris … and then realized that I read that book two years ago. Whoops! So THEN I started my real next book, We Were the Mulvaneys by Joyce Carol Oates. Didn’t get much reading time in over the weekend, so I’m hoping for a little more today.

Tweeting: I found this piece about living for a year without the Internet fascinating, even if his “conclusion” felt a little flat to me.

Homemaking: The breakfast bars I made last week were a rousing success all around (find the recipe at A Homebody), while last Wednesday, I spent a few hours cleaning out back patio and planting some happy coleus and a basil plant that I hope will be as successful as last year.

Excited About: On Friday, I was promoted at the bookstore … !!! I know, big news is always last, right? I will now be the store’s merchandising specialist (a position I really wanted), but also a full-time “keyholder,” which is essentially akin to an associate manager. I’ll get to open and close the store, and be the manager-on-duty for a few shifts a week once I’m trained! The job also comes with more hours and a higher pay grade, which makes my budget very happy as well. Plus, I think this management experience will be very, very good for me as I prepare myself for library work.

Also on the excitement front: next weekend, I’m excited to watch Joel compete in his very first duathalon. He’s been training for months and I’m so proud of him!

Anticipating: Grad school starts TODAY, which is both exciting and a little nerve-wracking. I got online at 7:30 this morning hoping to find the lectures already posted, but they’re not … wah wah. I feel like a little kid waiting for her first school bus, and it’s late.
