  • Quick thoughts up on finishing: OK folks, this is how I’m used to reading books — quickly and efficiently. Three days is actually pretty good for This Boy’s Life, which was simple to read and moved along at a relatively good clip most of the time. A look back at Tobias Wolff’s childhood in the mountains of Washington State — as well the time he spent criss-crossing the country with his mother before that — This Boy’s Life is entertaining and endearing, but I probably would have enjoyed it more had I known who Tobias Wolff was beforehand. Still, it’s hard to believe that parts of this actually happened — the kid actually swindled his way into an elite boys prep school — and I can’t say I didn’t enjoy myself while reading. That being said, the book didn’t grab me as some of my favorite memoirs have in the past. But then, they all can’t be winners.
