Sunday Salon: Feb. 13, 2011

So, it’s definitely been awhile. Things have been busy around here, chez Laura, and while I have been reading, blogging just hasn’t been a priority.  My days have been work-filled and I’ve felt little inspiration to sit down for any length of time and write even more than I already am. Meh. Sorry.

The good news is that I’ve been reading a lot. First, as you might have noticed, I finished Atlas Shrugged. Cue the choir of angels because I’m amazed it happened as well. I have been mulling over it for a week or so now, and I think I may be prepared to review it this week. I have a general idea what I want to say, and I definitely have favorable impressions of the book. The tough part is getting it all into words, unfortunately. Next, I blew through Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne and The Awakening by Kate Chopin. The Awakening was a re-read of one of my favorite books, and I forgot how easy and enjoyable it was. Now, I’m almost a quarter of the way through Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier. I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish my winter reading list by the end of the month, but I can at least try with this recent reading frenzy.

In other news, things are about to get lonely around here for Valentine’s Day. Joel has been working way more than usual—way more than me, I guess I should say. He pulled a double in the wind tunnel yesterday from noon to midnight, and will gone all next week to test in Bradner, Ohio (yeah, you don’t know where it is either). That leaves me flying solo for Valentine’s Day, which I’m none too excited about, though I try not to give Joel too much crap. I guess I’ll just throw myself into my work next week—even more than I already do?—and hope to get ahead.

And now, it’s almost 10 a.m. and I have to figure out what I’m doing today. Laundry is buzzing at me, I need to go grocery shopping for my lonesome self this week, movies need to be returned to the library, I might/might not cover something, and oh yeah, there is a lot of work to be done. *Sigh* What happened to the weekend?
