Morning musings of a bibliophile

I had another post planned for this morning, but I just love when Design*Sponge posts on books—specifically art inspired by books—that it was all I could think about this morning, and I had to share.  I am, after all, a compulsive bibliophile.

These are the new covers for the Puffins Classics series, the children’s division of Penguin.  Artist Daniela Jaglenka Terrazini did a great job with these illustrations, which completely capture the whimsical nature of our favorite childhood tales.  I particularly want the one for The Secret Garden.  *Adorable!*

You can find the rest of the post here.  There’s a nifty iPad cover there as well, which is cool…if that’s your thing.  Personally, I find it amusing how insistent e-reader owners are to point out how book-like Kindles and iPads are.  I mean, gosh darnit, don’t you know they’re more book-like than actual books?!  This trend is perfectly illustrated by all the e-reader covers that mimic traditional books.  Now, if you want to look like you’re reading an actual book, here’s what you do:  step away from the technology, stop shelling out hundreds of dollars on gadgets that will be outdated in 2 years, drive to the bookstore, peruse the shelves, shell out $12, and READ A BOOK.  Plus, the iPad cover Grace features on Design*Sponge is $99.  That’s $99 on top of the exhorbitant amount you already paid for the iPad.  If you go my route, it will be MUCH cheaper.
